Ecosapiens, an environmentally focused NFT project that aims to offset carbon emissions with its sale of tokens, has raised $3.5 million in seed funding.
The project aims to make blockchain collectibles more environmentally conscious and allow collectors to offset carbon emissions through nature-inspired avatars.
With the world grappling with the need to reduce carbon emissions, innovative solutions like Ecosapiens could prove to be valuable tools in the fight against climate change.
In order to create a new form of NFT collectibles that also contributes toward carbon offsetting, Ecosapiens has merged the popularity of NFTs with environmental initiatives.
Web3 fund Collab and Currency led the funding round, with contributions coming from investors including gmoney—founder of digital fashion firm 9dcc; Shan Aggrawal (vice president & head corporate development at Coinbase Ventures), Ryan Carson(former COO of Moonbirds).
Ecosapien’s nature-inspired avatars can be used as a means for collectors to offset carbon emissions. By buying additional carbon credits, Ecosapien owners can also evolve their NFTs and acquire rarity traits—cementing their status as a scarce asset.
The project provides a means and mechanism through which individuals can engage in environmental preservation.
Ecosapiens cofounder Nihar Neelakanti plans to use the funding to develop the Ecosapiens marketplace, experiment with minting strategies and forge brand partnerships in order expand Ecosapiens presence within Web3.
Ecosapien’s Alpha Collection, launched in February 2023, is listed on OpenSea for 0.055 ether (ETH), or roughly $100. The collection’s trading volume is about 18 ETH, or $32,300. So far, it claims to have offset over 1,000 tons of carbon dioxide—the equivalent of planting 40 thousand trees.
Ecosapiens is an NFT project that explores the intersection of Web3 and environmental sustainability.
With the global growth and expansion of Web3, these types of NFT projects are a model for future projects looking to integrate Web3 with environmental conservation.
By using NFTs, Ecosapiens provides a way to make it easy and economical for people to contribute toward creating a greener future.
